After school
2023 Collage 12” x 14” The story behind this piece is of somebody going to school tired and drained and when finally the school day ends and they get home and do nothing their parents call them lazy. When they want to rant to their parents or even complain to their parents, they make their struggles seem little and they say “why are you tired when you barely do anything”. This relates to me because my parent would treat me and sometimes still treat me like my problems are small. After a while I just stopped ranting to them or complaining to them about school. This piece is based on my feelings and how drained i feel after school. |
Ungrown
2023 Printmaking 9” x 12” My artwork is about feeling left out and feeling behind. This relates to me because it is how I have been feeling recently. I feel like everyone around me is growing up while I am still a kid, like everyone is in a relationship, has a job, and can drive while I just don’t want to let go of my innocence. By getting a job and learning how to drive I feel like I am betraying younger me. But at the same time I feel like I should be getting ready for the future. I should know what I want to do after high school and where I want to go to college, but I have no idea. I feel like everyone around me knows what they want to be and where they want to go, but I just don’t know yet. |
Inappropriate
2024 Collage 13 in” x 9 1/2 in” My artwork is about how we as a society sexualize human bodies. To me, human bodies are just part of nature and normal. When God created Adam and Eve he didn’t put any clothes on them; they were just nude in the Garden of Eden. I think he created us to not be ashamed of our bodies and not to shame other’s bodies. But sadly as a society, we all decide that bodies are hot and sexy but not beautiful and unique like nature. We also decided that bodies should be covered up and not seen like how breastfeeding mothers should “cover themselves” while feeding their children only because there is a male in the room. Another example of this is if a woman's nipple is showing through their shirt they should cover it but when a man’s nipples are showing all of a sudden that this is normal. There shouldn’t be double standards especially when it comes to human anatomy. I am not saying that men’s bodies don’t get sexualized, I just wanted to talk mainly about women's bodies. |
